Marvellous!
That’s the description of Manchester City and its Premier League campaign 2021/22 in one word. In one of the most pulsating season finales of the Premier League, Manchester City emerges victorious yet again to lift the Premier League title for the 4th time in the last 5 seasons. An astounding feat that makes the QNET family and all Cityzens around the world extremely proud!
The season finale was an edge-of-the-seat affair. A game against Aston Villa with the title hanging in the balance. It was almost reminiscent of Manchester City’s first Premier League title win in 2011/12 when Kun Aguero won the league with the last kick of the match.
In this game, City was two goals down until the 75th minute. They scored three quick-fire goals in 10 minutes to turn the fixture around and clinch the Premier League title. For most of the game, City was trailing, and the title seemed to be heading towards the Merseyside club, Liverpool, which also required a win to claim the title. But City rose with a great fighting spirit to win the game and their 8th Premier League title.

Manchester City’s Performance on the final day of the season

Citizens worldwide are still buzzing with Manchester City’s performance on the final day of the season. Manchester City was at 90 points heading into the final game, all set to claim its 8th title by winning the fixture. However, their game was against Aston Villa, who were gaining momentum in recent games and were looking to end the season with a statement win against City and denying them the title.
City’s title rivals, Liverpool, were following them in every step of the season. They had 89 points and would leapfrog City with a win if they were to drop points on the last day. There were doubts if City could pull it off after recently drawing a match against West Ham United. With everything to gain, the pressure was well and truly on the players.
The game began with great intensity. City was controlling majority of the possession. However, they were unable to take their chances. Against the run of play, Aston Villa scored through a Matty Cash header right before the half-time.
With City trailing at half-time, the team talk from Pep Guardiola was crucial to motivate the team and change the dynamics of the match. City took to the field with great determination but was still lacking the finishing touch. Aston Villa landed another sucker punch when they scored their second goal. Philip Coutinho latched onto a long ball before steering it past City goalkeeper, Ederson.
The Manchester City resurgence

The score was 2-0, and the game had become intensely hard for City to win with less than a quarter of the match left. Cometh the hour, cometh the man! Then stepped City’s mercurial player, Ilkay Gundogan. In the 75th minute, he rose the highest at the back post to guide home a Raheem Sterling cross. City was successful in pulling one goal back but still required two more goals to secure the title.
Almost instantly, Rodri unleashed a sublime side-foot finish that went sailing past the opposition keeper to level the score, 2-2. Then came the final goal and perhaps one of the most important moments in City’s history. In the 85th minute, Gundogan stepped up again to tap in a Kevin De Bruyne cross from close range.
City was successful in completing the comeback with a remarkable performance that turned the fixture on its head. City emerged victorious on the night from the jaws of defeat and was crowned the champions of England!
But the title wasn’t just won on the final day. It was a long drawn season where City had to go head-to-head with the best teams in the country. A showcase of great determination and champions’ spirit ultimately culminated in their title triumph.
