One of the most important matches came right at the start of the year with City going head-to-head with a strong Chelsea side. The match started with both teams playing defensive. But City switched gears scoring two quick-fire goals. The first goal was a quick shot from Ilkay Gundogan that found the bottom corner of the net. The second goal came from Phil Foden, who calmly tucked in a low cross.
Manchester City further added a third goal before half-time, with Captain Kevin De Bruyne getting himself on the scores sheet. Chelsea responded with a stoppage-time goal, but it was too late as City had already stamped their authority in the game.
