First Premier League title in 2011/12
It was perhaps one of the most iconic seasons for Manchester City supporters! One that will remain in their hearts for many more years. City had never won the Premier League title since its inception in 1992. This was the first time they were truly in the race for the title.
Under Roberto Mancini’s guidance, City had built a formidable side. Captain Vincent Kompany was at the heart of their defence, along with Joleon Lescott. David Silva was the midfield general that season, with the attack boasting the likes of club legends Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Carlos Tevez.
Heading into the final day of the season, City were on par on points with Manchester United. City was hosting QPR while their neighbours were playing away at Sunderland. City was in front in the first half courtesy of Pablo Zabaleta’s header at halftime. But after halftime, QPR scored two quick-fire goals. With a defeat seeming imminent and the clock running down, City players were under immense pressure.
Manchester City players stepped up with great fervour. In extra time, Dzeko scored a close-range header to pull one back for the home side. However, City needed to score another goal to win the title. Neighbours, Manchester United had already won the game and were in the driver’s seat to lift the Premier League title.
Then came one of the most breathtaking moments in football history. Sergio Aguero glided across a couple of defenders to slot the ball past the QPR goalkeeper with the last kick of the ball.
City had achieved the improbable by scoring two goals in stoppage time to flip the tie and win the title on the final day! A remarkable moment that still brings goosebumps to the Cityzens! It was City’s maiden title, which would mark the beginning of many more in the upcoming years.
Second title in a blistering season in Premier League 2013/14
Manchester City finished second to rivals Manchester United in the previous season. So, there was anticipation that the club would do one better this season. It was one of City’s best seasons in terms of goals as they netted 102 goals during the course of the campaign. With impressive wins over Norwich City (7-0), Arsenal (6-3) and Tottenham (6-0), City had one of their most dominating seasons in front of goal.
However, it was yet another season where the outcome went down to the wire. With just over two weeks left, City’s recent rivals, Liverpool, were in pole position to lift the title. But the last few fixtures did not go in their favour. City, on the other hand, won all of their final five fixtures. In the end, City ended the season with 86 points, having won 29 games during the campaign. On the final day, they put two goals past West Ham United to win the title.
Overall, it was a highly entertaining season culminating in a City triumph!

Resurgent City lifts 6th title on the final day of Premier League 2021/22
The recent season has just come to an end. City fans had the opportunity to witness a moment as remarkable as their first title. Throughout the 2021/22 season, City remained dominant. They were on top of the Premier League table since the beginning of the winter period.
During the winter period, they were successful in replicating their feat of remaining unbeaten during December. The final day of the Premier League was yet again an entertaining affair. City was on top of the table going into this fixture while Liverpool was hot on its heels. Anything less than a victory would result in City losing out on the title.
Manchester City was up against Aston Villa on the final day. The City players took charge of the game, coming close to opening the scoring on multiple occasions. However, Villa took the lead against the run of play going into halftime. After the halftime, City continued pursuing their first goal when they were stopped in their tracks by an Aston Villa sucker punch. Coutinho came off the bench to double Villa’s lead. With just 15 minutes left and City requiring three goals, the chances of a victory seemed very slim.
Ilkay Gundogan came off the bench for City to provide one of the performances of the season. He pulled one back with virtually his first touch of the ball after converting a Raheem Sterling cross. Rodri restored parity with a fine side-footed finish.
Manchester City still needed another goal to win the game and the title. In the 85th minute, Ilkay Gundogan was again in the right place and at the right time to tap in a close-range finish. City won the game 3-2 and the title by 1 point!
