Water is essential to our lives. More than 60% of our body is made up of water. It quenches our thirst, regulates important body functions and maintains the optimum temperature of the body.
Since water is central to our existence, consuming poor quality water can cause illness and other undesired conditions. Under such circumstances, a water purifier becomes a basic necessity.
Nowadays, every home has a water purifier. But there is a significant rise in illness due to contaminated water. So, is having a water purifier enough for health and wellness? Or do we need purification systems that ensure safety?
As a consequence, better water purifiers with advanced purification methods are being introduced. Reverse Osmosis (RO) is one of the best methods to remove undesired chemical compounds, organic and inorganic contaminants from water. Therefore, this article will explain water purification through reverse osmosis along with the new MyHomePlus KNIGHT – Alkaline RO water purifier by QNET.
What does Reverse Osmosis (RO) mean?

Reverse Osmosis (RO) is one of the most effective methods to purify water. In this method, water passes through a semi-permeable membrane to remove pollutants in the form of dissolved solids from the water. The process involves applying pressure on one side of the membrane to remove contaminants and provide pure water. The pure water is then available to us through a storage tank for drinking.
How does Reverse Osmosis purify water?

Reverse osmosis involves subjecting the water to many stages of purification. In our homes, tap water initially passes through the Pre-sediment filter, also called a pre-filter. The filter removes suspended particles in this stage.
In the next stage, the water passes through a sediment filter, often referred to as the essence filter. The sediment filter removes impurities like dust, deposits, particles and sand. It essentially has the same function of stopping and removing solid particles, which might have skipped the pre-filter. Pre-sediment and sediment filters form the initial stages of water purification.
The next step involves passing the water through a pre-carbon filter. The filter contains activated carbon granules to cleanse the water. Further, removing colour, odour, VOCs (chlorine and chloroform).
After the pre-carbon filter, water passes through the RO membrane, removing 90–99% of contaminants such as total dissolved solids (TDS), bacteria and viruses. The process involves applying osmotic pressure with the application of hydraulic pressure to the concentrated side using a pump. Water is then driven from the concentrated solution and collected downstream through the membrane.
The final stage involves passing the water through a .02 micron membrane of the Ultrafiltration (UF filter). Suspended particles that are too large to pass through the membrane stick to the outer membrane surface. Only fresh water and dissolved minerals pass through to the storage tank. Making water available in its purest form.
So, now that we have understood the process of Reverse Osmosis, let’s explore one of the best water purifiers for world-class reverse osmosis. The new MyHomePlus KNIGHT – Alkaline RO water purifier is our solution to pure drinking water.
