The rains have arrived. Is the monsoon season keeping you indoors and away from your day job as a direct seller or budding entrepreneur? Here’s your chance to grab your favourite blanket and get some valuable movie time.
Any movie buff will agree that some of the greatest films made were based on real life itself. The converse is also true – we can draw many inspiring lessons from on-screen stories to improve ourselves, professionally and personally. With this in mind, at QNET India, we have put together a bunch of feel-good movies that have great life lessons and offer powerful motivation on the work front. Here’s our monsoon movie marathon watch list:
Steve Jobs
As a modern-day business icon, Steve Jobs is in a league of his own. The 2015 biopic stays true to his incredible life and brilliance in many dimensions – logical reasoning, sales and marketing, invention, and leadership of a company such as Apple. It also sheds light on how he navigated through immense personal and professional challenges along the way. Some important takeaways include how like Jobs, cultivating an enduring passion spirit of innovation, and balancing work-life can be empowering.
The Devil Wears Prada
This movie makes this list for multiple reasons. It’s not just another feel-good coming-of-age comedy, but packed with serious motivational punches if you look more closely. Its principal character Miranda Priestly is inspired by a real-life account of Anna Wintour, Vogue’s editor-in-chief. While Miranda/Anna comes across as a tough and hard-to-please boss, she is respected and admired by employees and competitors for her sterling qualities. Her command over the industry, determination, decisiveness, professionalism and hard work, are worth reproducing in real life.

We Bought a Zoo
This is a great watch if you’re looking to spend some quality time with your loved ones. The lead character played by Matt Damon is a single dad to a young family. He switches professions as a journalist to invest in buying a zoo – a decision that might seem unwise. The movie traces the family’s journey as they cope with the challenges and unexpected joys of his bold choice. It also brings home the importance of making big life changes that are not easy to accept. And how these changes make us more adaptable and stronger to tackle bigger hurdles ahead.
12th Fail
As the title suggests, the story revolves around the main character’s transformation from a 12th-fail student from an underprivileged family to an individual carving out a promising career. It takes the viewer along his struggles to succeed in exams and discover his strengths of discipline, patience, and a never-give-up attitude. Like the hero, the viewer is compelled to believe in the power of failure as a chance to restart.
83
This movie celebrates one of India’s greatest victories as a cricketing nation. Released in 2021, it’s more than a nostalgic trip for cricket lovers. It’s a reminder of how the Indian team in 1983 managed to register one victory after another, against all odds, when nobody gave them a chance. The movie also highlights the huge role played by the team’s then captain, Kapil Dev. His unfailing confidence, acts of courage, and persistence as a leader drove his team to achieve seemingly impossible feats. These qualities are considered invaluable not only in the world of sport but in business as well.
